Ski and Snowboard Packing Guide
Avoid the hassle of dragging your gear through the airport, hoping it arrives at the terminal, and praying that it fits in your rental car or rideshare. Have it waiting at your destination instead. Ski and snowboard packing is easier than you think. Here's how:
Same idea as flying—plus your label
This is nearly the exact same process as packing for a flight, except you will print a label and attach it to your gear.
Items you'll need
A ski or snowboard travel bag or cardboard box
All the ski gear and accessories you want to ship
Ski clothes or bubble wrap to help stop gear from shifting and getting damaged in transit
Clear packing tape (if you don't have a large luggage tag, or if you are shipping in a cardboard box)
Shipping labels (printed from your SendMyGear email or account)
Zip ties (for securing labels to travel bags and cases)
Luggage tag or sturdy cardboard (optional if no luggage tag—not necessary for cardboard boxes)
Follow in order
Step-by-step packing & labeling
1
Ski and snowboard packing
Use a durable ski/snowboard bag
Choose a soft or hard ski/snowboard bag designed for travel.
Ensure your gear fits snugly and won't shift around during transit.
Pack your skis or board and secure with internal straps
To avoid movement, fill any empty space with dense padding—like extra ski clothes. You can wrap hard ski boots in bubble wrap to avoid scratching other items.
If shipping skis, a strap or rubber band to lift the binding brakes can help flatten the skis in the bag. (Not always necessary.)
Strap the brakes up so the ski sits flatter in the bag.
Brakes retracted—easier to slide into the bag without snagging.
Add accessories
Pack helmets, goggles, and smaller items in padded areas or separate compartments inside the bag.
Goggles
If you ship goggles, tuck them in a protected spot—such as inside a boot or under your helmet.
Beacons
If you ship a beacon, remove the batteries for compliance.
Secure the bag
Close all zippers securely and use luggage straps if you have them to keep the bag tight.
Secure zippers with zip ties so they don't open during transit.
Do not lock your bag with a padlock—it may cause delays.
2
Purchase and print your label
Ship dates: Select the date you want to ship your gear and how fast you want it to arrive at your destination.
Delivery dates: Schedule delivery for the day before you arrive so your gear is available first thing on arrival morning.
If you ship to a hotel, include HOTEL GUEST- followed by your name when booking. That helps staff know what to do when it arrives.
Contact the hotel: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the address and their process for guest shipments, including any special instructions.
After you pay, print the label from your SendMyGear email or account. Time to get excited—you saved close to 60% versus going to a shipping store. Best of all, you skip dragging gear through the airport and hoping it shows up at the baggage carousel. Your gear is handled with white-glove service door to door.
3
Attach a luggage tag
If you have a luggage tag, attach it to the handle of your ski bag.
We recommend a 9×6 large luggage tag.
4
No luggage tag? Make one from cardboard
Cut a piece of sturdy cardboard.
On the back, write your name, phone number, and hotel address.
Punch a hole at the top and attach it to the bag with a zip tie.
5
Secure the shipping label
If you made a cardboard tag: Tape the printed shipping label directly to the cardboard using clear packing tape.
Otherwise: Insert your printed label into your luggage tag so both addresses and all barcodes stay visible and easy to scan.
Ensure the label is fully visible, with both addresses and all barcodes easily accessible.
